Life sucks.  You get up each morning, you go to work or school, you come home, go to sleep, wake up the next morning, and repeat the process.  Outside of a few hobbies, t.v., and/or a significant other, there's not much to make life worthwhile.  Some people are happy, some aren't.  Some people find meaning in life through their work, some through their faith.  But outside of the movies and our own dreams the world is a dreary, mundane place, right?

     Wrong.

There is much more to this world than what we see.  There is a whole world that coexists with what Average Joe on the street sees every day.  The truth puts Hollywood's best to shame, and is frought with enough danger to make even the most hardcore thrill-seeker want to give up the rush.

You know those old stories of vampires and werewolves?  Fairies?  Wizards?  All superstitios nonsense and tales to amuse yougn children, right?

     Wrong.

I wasn't talking about some criminal world or a world of intrigue where secret agent battle it out over some cheesy strip of microfilm.  Creatures of the Night exist.  They walk down the same streets as humans.  They work the same jobs (albeit the night shift in the case of the vampires), and they pay taxes just like everyone else.  But humanity is little more than a resource for that which is considered supernatural.  To the vampires, humans are their food source, to werewolves, humans are breeding stock.  And then there are the Magi, the few humans who are cursed with the ability to channel energies that can only be described as arcane and eldritch.

The vampires and werewolves have been fighting it out for centuries.  a secret war going on more than three thousand years in its entirety, and throughout it all the human race has been caught in the middle of it all.  If not for the Magi, the entire world would have fallen into anarchy and chaos after the first few centuries.  Even with their protection it's my belief that the world is slowly circling the drain.

You have no reason to believe me, and I can't make you believe me unles you really want to believe.  It's a reflex of the human mind to either ignore, disbelieve, or rationalize that which does not fit into their world view.  The few humans whoe find out about all this and try to go public are either locked up or thought to be conspiracy nuts.  Not even the so-called psychics and paranormal investigators really know what's going on, and their suspicions are way off.

Regardless, I'm going to tell my story and you can believe what you want.

My name is Carter, and I have been dead for the past ten years.
